Currently live in Sonoma County, where I have moved back after living in Marin for 10 years, I love good food and wine with friends.
Happy in a simple way. Love Napa cabs, Sonoma zins, and have a fondness for Bordeaux (not necessarily the people, but certainly the wine) when the exchange rate for the USD to Euro is reasonable. My only criteria for wine is that it tastes good to me ... My only problem is a tendancy to accumulate and collect .. I am up to around 400 bottles.
I try to drink 2 bottles a week, but end up buying on average 4. I really need to develop a drinking problem to get the numbers down in the cellar ... I should be able to do better having gone to Chico State, but oh well ...
I try to plan my year around good friends, wine events, and holiday parties (Christmas and New Years are favorites) ... though anytime is a good time for friends, family and a party .. something stuck from Chico State!
I LOVE wine, and enjoy talking about it ... feel free to drop a line anytime for discussion or if you will be in the wine Country I am happy to recommend local wineries and resturants in Sonoma County where I live.
Hi Glenn! Weird, I didn't see your comment on my page till now! Your doggie is REALLY cute! My terrier (Scruffy) is a Cairn Terrier, male - 2 years old... he really is a "terror" :-)
New Orleans is coming back, slowly and much more slowly due to the 'colorful' politicians we have here. So many are wanting to line their own pockets rather than act in good faith for the city. There are better wine shops here, small local active places that are inspiring the search for better wines. The restaurant scene has always been on top of French wines due to the local heritage. For the most part, New Orleans is a port city, independant restaurants, very good cuisine, a virtual melting pot of culture here.
I'm going to Bordeaux for the first time next week. We are touring all of the 'up and coming' vineyards and they are looking for my company to import or distribute. With the euro being what it is, I'm sure there is a glut of juice, thus the trip ( which the chamber of commerce of Liboure is footing). Will be interesting.
Funny comment on johnnyquest's profile. I just wonder which critic that would be? Hmm, r.p., perhaps? As an interesting aside, the WS formula was used by one indie winemaker to his advantage, thus gaining the well-deserved recognition he perhaps needed to launch into the global market.
One of mine does too...He digs holes all over the yard and buries random things that blow in with every trash collection day such as Kraft singles wrappers, wreaking havoc on the flower beds.
I don't know if the singing helps but I tend to get songs about herbs stuck in my head while I'm watering them so why not belt them out and see what happens? I have no idea why, but my lemon tree is growing much faster than my key lime tree and they are sitting on the same porch. Perhaps my singing is killing one and pleasing the other. I am convinced that the rosemary is doing better than the lavender because there are no songs about lavender...I'm going to try Prince's Purple Rain. lol.
I love a good Barolo, but they're a bit pricey for an everyday wine, since I definitely drink more than 2 bottles of wine a week. Salice Salentino is a decent Italian, but definitely open it and decant for at least 30 minutes before drinking. aman at an Atlanta wine shop told me that years ago, and he was right. It's not bad if you drink it right after opening, but has a very different taste a little while later. The area right around Bordeaux isn't much geographically, but just a couple of hours East, the Dordogne Valley is beautiful!
